Project 5 - The Future

For this new project we were given two briefs to choose from. One of the briefs was from Regen South West and the other was from Marine Wild Life Champions. I have decided to do the brief from Marine Wild Life Champions. They require you to choose a threat to focus the work on, these threats are: Terrestrial Pollution, Plastic Pollution, Climate Change, Over Fishing and Protection of the Sea. I have decided that I would like to create a a series of posters focussed on one threat. The threat I have chosen is plastic pollution.

I want to make my posters eye catching and bold. I want both adults and children to understand what is happening in the posters, so it will need to be clear. I will illustrate these posters on paper first, and scan them into photoshop where I will add colour. I want the posters to be focussed on the many consequences of plastic pollution such as; the worlds oceans are being polluted, wildlife is being affected, the toxins from plastic are effecting peoples health, contributes to land pollution, etc.

In everyday life everybody is at fault for plastic pollution. For example: when people go to shop whether it is food shopping, clothes shopping etc, almost everybody has a plastic bag to carry their shopping in. If you're getting a lot of shopping, you're using a lot of bags, which will get thrown away and dumped on a landfill if you do not re-use them. Most shops now charge 5p for a plastic bag to encourage people to bring their own bags when shopping, but yet still a lot of people are not re-using the plastic bags they have and they still end up polluting the land.

I want my posters to show people that by re-using plastic bags, by recycling their plastic packaging or re-using it for other things, it can really help the environment. Plastic is used in almost every ones ever day life and it is important that people are aware of the consequences of incorrect disposal of plastic.

Not only does plastic pollution effect the land, it also effects the sea. Plastic micro beads that are found in most every day face washes, get washed away down the sink and end up in the sea. Small organisms such as Plankton eat these small plastic beads and become poisoned. A bigger fish then ingests the Plankton and they then become poisoned too, and this continues up the food chain. Fishing nets also effect marine life. Fishing boats can be at sea for long periods of time, and sometimes their fishing nets get lost. There plastic fishing nets not only pollute the sea, but trap small organisms or again can be ingested.

I feel like this is a serious threat to both land and sea, and that is why I want to create a series of posters to highlight this threat and encourage both adults and children, to Reduce, Recycle, Reuse.
