Artist Research

Andy Goldsworthy

Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist. The work he produces includes sculptures and land art situated in natural and urban settings. To create his sculptures he uses the environment. He uses sustainable resources, twigs, leaves, stones, to create his art. So not only is he promoting being environmentally friendly, he is showing that the environment can be used for art, and it is art within itself. I like the way he captures the patterns and textures of what he photographs. It shows people how beautiful the simplest of things we see every day, such as stones, trees etc. I think that this shows the environment in a different light and shows people that it's not just a rock or a twig, it has so many patterns and textures that we fail to see, and we do not realise how beautiful they are. This shows the people that the world is naturally beautiful and we are slowly destroying it with new buildings, deforestation, and land land pollution. I find Goldsworthy's work really interested and would like to take some photography in the style of Goldsworthy, showing the patterns and textures of the environment that we tend to ignore.
